ULEZ

Ultra Low Emission Zone

The ULEZ is now in operation. If your vehicle is affected by the new regulations and are looking to upgrade your vehicle then we can help. We can source a vehicle within your budget and will also take your vehicle in part exchange. We are located just outside the ULEZ  so we can be accessed without having to enter the zone and paying the daily charge.

What is the Ultra Low Emission Zone?

The ULEZ is being brought in to replace the T-Charge. It aims to help improve air quality in London. It will cover the same area as the Congestion Charge and will affect most vehicles, including cars and vans. These vehicles will be required to meet new, more restrictive exhaust emission standards (ULEZ standards). Any vehicles that don’t meet the new standards will be liable for a daily charge in order to drive within the ULEZ area. This charge is in addition to the current Congestion Charge.

The Transport for London website stated: ‘The ULEZ will operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week within the same area as the current Congestion Charging Zone (CCZ), and comes into force on 8 April 2019.’

Currently, the ULEZ will only affect the current congestion charge zone. However this may change in the near future and could be expanded to the North and South Circular by 2021.

Which vehicles are affected?

A whole host of vehicles are affected by this change in legislation including motorcycles, mopeds, motorised tricycles, quadricycles, cars, small vans, large vans, 4X4 light utility vehicles, motorised horseboxes, pickups, ambulances, motorcaravans , minibuses, lorries, breakdown & recovery vehicles, snow ploughs, gritters, refuse collection vehicles, road sweepers, concrete mixers, fire engines, tippers, removals lorries, buses and coaches.

If you are unsure as to whether or not your vehicle will meet the new standards, then fear not, it’s nice and easy to check. You can check to see if your vehicle meets these

standards by visiting the TFL website and entering your registration number on the VRM Checker. Check my vehicle now .

Most vans with gross vehicle weights up to 3500kg registered before September 2016 will be affected by the new regulations. It is recommended that light commercial vehicles with gross weights up to 3500kg have the newer Euro 6 engines which are cleaner and emit fewer emissions.

What are the new standards? The new regulations affect both diesel and petrol engines. The ULEZ standards are:

● Euro 3 for motorcycles, mopeds, motorised tricycles and quadricycles (L category).

● Euro 4 for petrol cars, vans, minibuses and other specialist vehicles.

● Euro 6 for diesel cars, vans and minibuses and other specialist vehicles.

● Euro VI for lorries, buses and coaches and other specialist heavy vehicles.
